Trier – Park Plaza Hotel
Excellent Stay in Roman Trier
I have stayed at the hotel once before around 10 years ago and my memory of that stay was positive so I had high expectations, I was not to be disappointed.
The hotel is a good 15 minute walk from Trier Station and some of it over cobbled streets so if travelling with heavier luggage or it is raining take a taxi.
The Roman city of Trier is well worth a visit and especially so by train as every rail route to the city from all directions is scenic!
Check-in was smooth and the friendly receptionist gave me details about the hotel. My Club Carlson number was not on the reservation and I did not have my card with me, she was unable to locate my account in her system, this could have been an issue as I get 15% food and beverage discount with my status (I found my number once I got the room and used the free internet).
The first impressions of the hotel with the airy reception that opens through to the bar and restaurant is a good one.
I was given a room on the 2nd floor looking into the courtyard of the hotel and this proved to be very quiet.
Decent sized room, not sure what category of room though, with a table and two chairs, which was useful as I did some catching up on emails.
Tea and coffee facilities are available in the room. The room itself was functional and comfortable, I had a good nights sleep, and the fact that there was a small hallway made it very quiet.
The bathroom was the weak point of the room. It was small and there was no door on the shower so when I used it the whole bathroom was flooded, perhaps that is why they have a rubber duck in the room!
I had dinner in the lively restaurant which specialises in steaks,which looked and smelt great, but I’m going through a semi Veggie phase so chose te veggie burger with sweet potato fries – very tasty accompanied by a glass of red wine. Service was good.
Breakfast is in the same restaurant and has a reasonable buffer spread. Eggs can be ordered but there is nothig to indicate this, I had to ask for an omelette,
Would I stay here again? Yes without a doubt, I really like this hotel.
