Saarbrucken – Mercure City
Handy for the railway station and to explore from
Spent 2 nights here over the past weekend. The hotel is 400 metres from the railway station so is perfect when travelling by train. It is a 5 minute walk to the compact old town in Saarbrucken.
An efficient check in by a couple of friendly associates. One negative was the mini bar was not explained, I belive it is free of charge…. well I didn’t pay and no price list and was not asked on check out!
The hotel is housed in a not especially attractive building and has a dated feel to it but this should not be read as a negative as it was very clean and functional with good staff.
Breakfast was good with it being available from 06.30, even at the weekend, with an eggs menu as well as the buffet I was set up for the day ahead. Well staffed and a nice environment in the restaurant. I had dinner in the hotel restaurant on the first night and the food was good, as was the wine. The menu was heavy on the local cuisine and asparagus,, I had potato dumplongs with liverwurst, bacon cream sauce and fine-wine sauerkraut – was tasty and filling. As an Accor Le Club member I got a 10% discount on food and drink.
The room itself was functional and I slept well. The bathroom was small but as travelling alone was not a problem, bathroom amenities of the usual Mercure standard not bad and not good but usable.
Would I stay here again? Yes, because I travel by train its location is good, the rooms OK and the restaurant is decent.
