The Øresundstog is a cross-border regional passenger train that links multiple cities in Sweden with Copenhagen in Denmark.
If you need to travel between Sweden and Denmark, this train service is an excellent way to do so.
Let me explain everything you need to know about this train!

About Øresundstog
The most important train service between Sweden and Denmark is known as the Øresund Train, which in Danish is called Øresundstog and in Swedish Öresundståg.
It is named after the Øresund Strait between Denmark and Sweden.
Across this important sea lane is a joint rail and road bridge – the Øresund Bridge – which links Copenhagen in Denmark with Malmö in Sweden.
Dozens of train services run across the Øresund Bridge each day, including Øresundstog trains.
Different services
There are typically four Øresundstog trains per hour across the Øresund Bridge between Copenhagen’s main railway station (Københavns Hovedbanegård, generally abbreviated to København H) and Malmö Central Station.
These regional trains make several intermediate stops between the two major railway hubs, including at the station serving Copenhagen Airport.
After Malmö Central, these trains continue towards the Swedish university city of Lund.
From Lund, they continue in four different directions, with one train per hour going onward to Gothenburg (Göteborg), one per hour to Kalmar, one per hour to Karlskrona, and one per hour to Helsingborg.
Therefore, if you only need to travel between Copenhagen and Malmö or Lund, you can benefit from frequent departures, with one train every 15 minutes.
However, if you need to travel to or from destinations further into Sweden, you will need to check the timetable more carefully, as there is only one departure each hour.
Travel experience
I have taken the Øresundstog train between Sweden and Denmark multiple times.
Most recently, I travelled on the Øresundstog between Gothenburg and Copenhagen, and used the opportunity to create a short video guide of the journey to show what it is like to travel between Sweden and Denmark by train.
You can watch the video below on my DiscoverByRail YouTube channel.
Top tip: If you need a good hotel in Gothenburg, I can recommend the Hyatt Place Gothenburg Central, located in the railway station itself!
