About Ouigo
Ouigo is the low-cost high-speed brand of SNCF, the French Railways, which markets its standard high-speed TGV services as inOui.
As high-speed rail in Spain is fully liberalised, new operators are able to run trains across the country, in addition to the Spanish national rail company Renfe.
This is why besides the AVE high-speed trains of Renfe, you can also hop on a high-speed train operated by Ouigo in Spain or one operated by Iryo, a company jointly owned by Trenitalia, the Italian State Railways.
In fact, Renfe has its own low-cost high-speed train service called Avlo, which was fully inspired by Ouigo.
All this competition, from both standard high-speed operators and their low-cost counterparts, is obviously great news for Spanish rail travellers and foreign visitors to Spain, as it has resulted in a significant decrease in ticket prices!
