Trenitalia to Launch Berlin-Naples High-Speed Train
Trenitalia is planning to launch a direct high-speed train linking the German capital Berlin with Naples in southern Italy.
New high-speed trains from Germany to Italy
The news about Trenitalia’s international high-speed train plans was reported by the German-language travel blog Travel-Dealz.
The German travel blog reported that Trenitalia has filed its prospective high-speed train services to Germany with the independent regulatory body Schienen-Control, which ensures the right to non-discriminatory access to Austrian railway infrastructure and services.
A PDF document of Schienen-Control shows that Trenitalia has submitted multiple new international high-speed train services to the Austrian regulator, whose territory they would need to cross in order to get from Italy to Germany.

Berlin to Naples high-speed train
By far the most interesting of the prospective international high-speed services is a Berlin–Naples high-speed train.
Carrying the train numbers EC1184 (from Italy to Germany) and EC1185 (in the reverse direction towards Italy), this new service would connect Naples with Berlin Hbf via Rome, Florence, Bologna, Verona, Bolzano, Innsbruck, Munich, Nuremberg, and Erfurt.
The Berlin–Naples high-speed train service is expected to launch on 11th of June 2028.
Other international train services
Trenitalia has filed for a couple more high-speed train services linking Italy with Germany, which are set to launch much earlier than the Berlin–Naples service.
Among these are a Rome–Florence–Bologna–Munich service (EC1186/1187) and a Milan–Munich service (EC1188/1189), both routed via Verona and Innsbruck.
Both these trains are expected to launch on the 13th of December 2026, when the new winter timetable comes into effect.
A Milan–Berlin high-speed train (via Verona, Innsbruck, Munich, and Nuremberg) carrying train numbers EC1182/1183 is expected to launch on the 13th of June 2027.
On the 12th of December 2027, a Naples–Munich high-speed train (via Rome, Florence, Bologna, Verona, Bolzano, and Innsbruck) carrying train numbers EC1180/1181 is planned to start operating.
All of the above trains are planned to operate once a day throughout the year.

Rolling stock
According to the filing documents of Schienen-Control, Trenitalia plans to use their flagship Frecciarossa 1000 high-speed trains to operate these new international services between Italy and Germany.
The capacity of these trains listed in the document is around 450 seats, which suggests that all four of Trenitalia’s travel classes will likely be offered on these international high-speed routes, including Executive Class with its luxurious 1+1 seating configuration and excellent on-board service.
