Bargain Fares in East Anglia – London to Norwich £6.60
Last week I took a ride on Greater Anglia’s new trains from London to Great Yarmouth Via Norwich. The new trains, built by Stadler, are excellent and a really good addition to the UK rail network and possibly one of the best trains!
The mainline trains between London and Norwich are all electric whereas the trains that work the branch lines are bi-mode i.e. both diesel and electric.
The fares
The headline fare between London and Norwich is just £10 (£6.60 with a Railcard) in Standard Class. Upgrade the travel experience for £18 (£11.85 with a Railcard) in First Class with free tea, coffee and water plus biscuits.
Travelling to Great Yarmouth, Sheringham, Cromer and Lowestoft is £14 (£9.20 with a Railcard) in Standard Class and £19 (£12.50 with a Railcard) in First Class, note there is not First Class on the branch line trains.
There is an interesting option to make a little triangular ride as a couple of the connections to Lowestoft are routed via Norwich rather than the normal Ipswich routing BUT with no difference in price – so you can do:
London – Ipswich – Lowestoft – Norwich – London or vice versa. Great for those doing #allthelines of Great Britain.
If you wish to visit Norwich, which is well worth a stop, then do a return to Norwich and a day return from Norwich to Cromer, Sheringham or Great Yarmouth for around £9.50 return (£6.25 with a Railcard).
