Hotel Diplomatic Turin – Great Hotel For Train Users
The Hotel Diplomatic Turin has a perfect location for Turin’s Porta Susa Railway Station, just a 2-minute safe walk away. Also easily walkable to the centre of Turin along gallery lined streets, protecting you from the weather.
I arrived early off of an overnight train from Salerno and got the hotel at 09.30. Reception advised that the room was not ready and would not be ready for another two hours. This is one reason I tend to stick with chain hotels where I have loyalty as they will check you in as and when you arrive, as a rule. I actually didn’t believe that there were no rooms available but I went and sat in the bar to catch up on emails and after an hour went back to reception and asked if I could have a room and they checked me in. One thing to note / remember in Italy is that when checking into hotels they require your passport, and more often than not will take a photocopy of it. The check in staff were what I consider to be standard Italian hotel ones – not over friendly.
My room was on the 6th floor, the top floor, and reached by a small lift that could fit perhaps 3 people at the most.
I was pleasantly surprised by the room, whilst not the most modern it was OK – again what I would consider to be a typically Italian hotel room. The room was relatively small, but as a single traveller and having paid quite a low rate I would not have expected anything different.
The bathroom was compact and the shower cubicle small, I’m not a big person and I found it quite tight….the amenities in the bathroom were good i.e. the soap and shampoo.
The room itself had a TV, minibar, air conditioning, a desk, decent wifi, triple glazing so was quiet as well as a small hallway with an additional door thus blocking any corridor noise. The bed was 2 single beds pushed together and was fairly comfortable
The highlight of the stay was dinner with a 4 course menu for €19 including a glass of wine, water and coffee. The food at the Hotel Diplomatic Turin was tasty, well presented and good value.
On the subject of food, the breakfast was very much the weakest part of the stay, why are Italian breakfasts so unhealthy?!? The staff on the restaurant were very good.
Would I stay at Hotel Diplomatic Turin again? Yes, as it offered good value, well located and great food for dinner.
