High-Speed Train Service Between France and Italy to Resume
The high-speed train service between Paris, France, and Milan, Italy, which was suspended after the railway line was damaged in a landslide, will resume on April 1st.
Landslide damage
The high-speed railway line between France and Italy was hit by a massive landslide on 28th August 2023.
On that day, the landslide damaged the railway line in the Maurienne Valley in the French Alps, near the border station of Modane.
As the damage to the infrastructure could not be easily repaired, all high-speed trains linking Paris, the capital of France, with Turin and Milan in Italy, were temporarily suspended.

Reopening
In what is certainly good news for international rail travellers, a reopening date for the railway line and the relaunch of high-speed train services between France and Italy have now been set.
Starting from 1st April, Trenitalia will resume operating its Frecciarossa high-speed trains between Paris, Turin, and Milan.
Bookings for these high-speed trains between France and Italy can once again be made on the Trenitalia website.
On the Frecciarossa high-speed train departing on 1st April, tickets between Paris and Milan are currently priced at €35 for standard class (2nd class), €55 for business class (1st class), and €199 for executive class, which is the most exclusive and luxurious offering by any European train operator.
These are certainly highly competitive prices and should even appeal to Brits, as it’s easy to take the Eurostar to Paris and connect in France to this high-speed train to Italy.
The high-speed train takes 6 hours and 48 minutes to complete the journey from Paris to Milan, stopping en route in Lyon, Chambery, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, Modane, Oulx, and Turin.

TGV
Before the landslide, the French Railways (SNCF) ran TGVs from Paris to Turin and Milan, competing with Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa high-speed trains.
Although two daily high-speed train departures are listed on the SNCF website, these trains are still marked as “non réservable” and cannot yet be booked.
It is unclear when SNCF will open bookings for its inOui high-speed TGV trains from France to Italy, but they will likely follow Trenitalia’s lead by relaunching their services around the same date.

The main railway line across the Alps between France and Italy will soon reopen following a landslide, with Trenitalia’s first Frecciarossa high-speed train linking Paris with Turin and Milan scheduled to restart on 1st April.
The high-speed TGV service between Paris and Milan, operated by SNCF, is also likely to restart soon as well, although the French Railways have not yet announced when their trains will once again connect France with Italy.
