FlixTrain to Start International Berlin to Warsaw Train Route
FlixTrain is set to launch its first international route with a twice-daily train service connecting Berlin and Warsaw.
FlixTrain international route
The Polish Office of Rail Transport, Poland’s national railway authority, has granted private operator FlixTrain permission to run a twice-daily train service between Berlin and Warsaw.
According to the Polish transport website Obserwator Logistyczny, the train service between the German and Polish capitals is set to begin in December 2025.
About the new FlixTrain service
The international FlixTrain service from Berlin to Warsaw will stop at Berlin Hbf, Berlin Ostbahnhof, Poznań Główny, and all three main Warsaw stations — Warszawa Zachodnia, Warszawa Centralna and Warszawa Wschodnia — which are, respectively, the western, central and eastern stations in the Polish capital.
The estimated journey time between Berlin Hbf and Warszawa Wschodnia is just over 5 hours.
From Berlin Hbf, a morning train will depart at 08:25 and arrive at Warszawa Wschodnia at 14:00, while the afternoon train will depart Berlin Hbf at 14:52 and reach its final stop of Warszawa Wschodnia at 20:00.
In the reverse direction, a morning train will depart Warszawa Wschodnia at 08:03 and arrive at Berlin Hbf at 13:06, while the afternoon train will leave from Warszawa Wschodnia at 16:03 and reach Berlin Hbf at 21:06.
Interestingly, FlixTrain has only been granted the rights to transport international passengers and is not permitted to offer tickets for domestic journeys between Poznań and Warsaw.
Competition
On the Berlin to Warsaw route, FlixTrain will compete directly with the Polish State Railways, which operates several daily EuroCity trains between the German and Polish capitals.
Ticket prices for the international FlixTrain connection are not yet known, but the competition between the two operators is likely to result in lower prices across the board on the Berlin-Warsaw route.
While the EuroCity trains operated by PKP have the advantage of an excellent Polish dining car, FlixTrain will benefit from a quicker journey time, as it will not stop at intermediate stations such as Frankfurt (Oder), Rzepin, Kutno, and Konin, unlike the EuroCity trains on this route.
FlixTrain international expansion
In recent years, FlixTrain has been working on plans to operate international trains, in addition to the services it already runs within Germany and its connection to Basel in Switzerland.
Although FlixTrain has previously shown interest in operating trains from Germany to Rotterdam in the Netherlands and has even been granted permission and allocated international train paths, it has since halted those plans.
However, FlixTrain spokesman Charles Billiard has stated that “it is our ambition to build a European train network”.
Conclusion
FlixTrain will launch a twice-daily cross-border train service between Berlin, Germany, and Warsaw, Poland.
The international FlixTrain is set to launch in December 2025 and will also stop in Poznan on its route between Berlin and Warsaw.
FlixTrain has only been granted permission to transport international passengers between Germany and Poland, as it is not allowed to sell tickets for domestic journeys within Poland.
