Eurostar Relaunches Amsterdam Service, Increases Capacity
After a seven-month hiatus, the direct Eurostar service between London and Amsterdam has resumed, now with increased capacity on each train.
London to Amsterdam trains
Direct Eurostar services between London and Amsterdam were suspended in June 2024 due to construction work and station refurbishment at Amsterdam Centraal, the Eurostar terminus and the main railway station of the Dutch capital.
Now that work on the new Eurostar terminal has been completed, the direct train service between London and Amsterdam resumed last Monday (10th of February).
Eurostar CEO Gwendoline Cazenave said: “We are delighted that direct Eurostar services between Amsterdam and London are back.
“This is more than just a train journey — it is a seamless connection between two vibrant capitals, offering our customers an efficient, comfortable, and sustainable way to travel.”

New terminal
Travellers departing from Amsterdam on Eurostar can now use a brand-new terminal beneath the railway tracks, which Dutch media have described as a “modern-looking space” in “gleaming white tones with plenty of glass”.
The new terminal features a café serving barista coffee and pastries, free cold water for all passengers, and ultrafast Wi-Fi.
Eurostar CEO Cazenave said: “Eurostar is proud to unveil this state-of-the-art terminal, reinforcing our commitment to providing a seamless, sustainable, travel experience.
“We know we will welcome more passengers on board as we continue to grow our services and set the standards for connectivity across Europe.”
Capacity increase
Eurostar operates three daily services between London and Amsterdam on weekdays and Sundays, while Saturdays have two.
As the old terminal in Amsterdam was small, capacity controls were in place, preventing trains departing the Dutch capital from running at full capacity.
Eurostar trains can carry up to 900 passengers, but due to the limited capacity of the old terminal, only 250 could board the train in the Dutch capital.
With the new terminal now complete, up to 400 passengers can now board each departure from Amsterdam.

Future works
Between 30th March and 22nd April, the Eurostar terminal at Amsterdam Centraal will temporarily close to allow further platform renovations and increase capacity.
After this, passenger capacity from Amsterdam will increase to 600, with full capacity of up to 650 passengers set to be introduced by September 2025.
Conclusion
After a seven-month hiatus, Eurostar’s direct service between London and Amsterdam has resumed, with increased capacity and a brand-new terminal at Amsterdam Centraal.
The new terminal offers improved facilities, including a café, free chilled water, and ultrafast Wi-Fi, with plans to further increase passenger capacity by 2025.
