Amtrak Sale: Companion Travels Free With Roomette Ticket
Amtrak has a great sale for long-distance travel in which your companion travels free of charge with you when booking a private roomette.
Amtrak’s roomette sale
The promotion has been dubbed the ‘Twice as Nice Sale’ by Amtrak, and essentially is a two-for-one deal as your companion can travel with you free of charge when you book a private roomette on a long-distance train.
Roomettes (previously known as standard bedrooms) are compact two-berth compartments located on either side of a central corridor in a sleeping car.
In daytime mode, they feature two seats facing each other, while at night the seats convert into a lower berth, while an upper berth folds down from the ceiling.
Each roomette includes a fold-out washbasin and table, while your ticket also covers complimentary onboard meals, Amtrak lounge access at major stations, and priority boarding.
Essentially, roomettes are Amtrak’s mid-range option for long-distance travel – a definite step up from the reclining seats, as you have your own private room and a fully flat bed at night, though it’s less spacious and luxurious than the bedrooms, which also feature an en-suite toilet and shower.

To ensure your companion travels free with you, use discount code ‘C121’ when booking your long-distance train ticket on the Amtrak website.
The discount only applies when you book a private roomette shared between you and your travel companion – it’s not valid for two separate roomettes for the price of one.

Terms and conditions
This Amtrak sale runs from 21 October to 1 November 2025 and is valid for travel between 1 November 2025 and 31 January 2026.
The sale applies to all Amtrak long-distance trains with roomettes: the California Zephyr, Cardinal, City of New Orleans, Coast Starlight, Crescent, Empire Builder, Floridian, Lake Shore Limited, Silver Meteor, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited, and Texas Eagle.
It is also valid for the northbound Auto Train from Sanford, FL, to Lorton, VA, but not in the opposite direction.
Blackout dates apply: 21–25 November 2025, 28–30 November 2025, 18–22 December 2025, and 26 December 2025–3 January 2026.
